After Sofyan Hadi’s departure, Death Vomit immediately stepped on the gas and entered the studio to record a new song, “Divine Heretic”.
The song “Divine Heretic” is Death Vomit’s first single with a new vocalist and guitarist. Who are they? We don’t know yet, there’s no need to speculate because the veil will soon be revealed. Just save your curiosity until Death Vomit surprises us all with their new line up on the Rock in Solo Festival stage on December 10, 2023.
What is certain is that “Divine Heretic” exhibits the extreme aggression and brutality of Death Vomit at its most intense level. The older you get, the crazier you get. During their 28 years of existence, their musicality has been like sharp fangs that have been consistently honed. From the beginning to the end of the song, the super fast tempo is quite dominant with blast beats scattered here and there. And it is reinforced by a fast picking riff which emphasizes the ‘evil’ accent of the notes. The arrangement is tight-ass-kicking with lots of parts that barely leave room to breathe. Even though they never stop provoking headbanging, they insert slow tempo and melodic parts as effective bridges to create harmony in the musical composition.
There are two new things in this song which are quite refreshing for the development of Death Vomit’s music. First, the riffing is more exploratory in terms of chord progression. Second, the growl vocal style has become more chatty and emotional. These two things are executed massively and aggressively which are the highlights throughout this 4 minute 5 second song.
Overall, “Divine Heretic” still has a strong thread of Death Vomit’s music, which is known for being ruthless, non-compromise, and has an old school nuances as a manifestation of the death metal band born in the ‘90s. The character and spirit they have maintained since 1995. Welcome to the new era of Death Vomit with the single “Divine Heretic” as the entry point.
